We used Morganton Point Campground as a home base when we visited northern Georgia. Our destinations on this trip included Tallulah Gorge State Park, Helen, and Amicalola Falls State Park. We really liked this campground for several reasons: location right off a lake (Blue Ridge Lake), spacious with a fair amount of privacy, proximity to the town of Blue Ridge, GA, and easy access to other destinations in the north Georgia area. Our site was not necessarily lake front, but there was a path through the trees that led to the lake. Our campground neighbors walked their inflatable paddle boards down this path to access the lake. There was also a swim beach within walking distance from the campground.

When I booked this campground, I noticed the town of Blue Ridge nearby. I saw on Google Maps that they had a drive-in movie theater, which was intriguing to me. We were hoping to catch a movie here, but our days were filled with hiking and exploring. By the time the evening rolled around, we were content to hang out by the campfire and go to bed early.

What I didn’t realize during my map explorations was how much of an amazing small town Blue Ridge was. We happened to drive back to camp through Blue Ridge one evening after a day out and we decided to park and walk around. The town had little shops and restaurants. It reminded me of a scaled down version of Estes Park, CO or Jackson, WY.
