A travel trailer and pick up truck in a campsite at Big Meadows Campground in Shenandoah National Park

Big Meadows Campground

We really enjoyed our stay at Big Meadows Campground while visiting Shenandoah National Park. We stayed with our 20 ft travel trailer in a site that was just the right size for us. There are several smaller tent-only sites, walk-in sites, and some larger pull-through sites that can accommodate larger RVs. You can read more about our visit to Shenandoah here: Shenandoah National Park – Miles of Yellow Lines.

Big Meadows was perfect for us because it was centrally located in Shenandoah National Park, which is a long, narrow park. We had activities planned both north and south of the campground, so this gave us a great homebase for all we had planned. There is a small camp store, visitor center, and lodge near the Big Meadows Campground. The campground is also just down the road from Dark Hollow Falls, which is a great short trail to a beautiful, tall waterfall.

The Big Meadows Campground does not have any hookups, so you will need to plan for dry camping. However, there is a freshwater fill station and a dump station just outside the campground. Also, keep in mind that you are camping in bear country, so food (or coolers) must never be left unattended.
