We absolutely loved camping at Wheeler Peak Campground in Great Basin National Park! After our stay, we quickly decided this was our favorite camping experience to date. What makes it so great? You’re camping up in the mountains at 9,500 feet in elevation. It was warmer during the day and cooled off nicely in the evenings. There are great mountain views from the campground, which is covered with pine trees. The campground is within walking distance from a variety of beautiful mountainous trails that lead to glaciers, mountain peaks, and mountain lakes. Although we were only able to stay for one night, we had a great time, and we will definitely be back if the opportunity arises! Note that Wheeler Peak Campground is located at the top of Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive, which is a narrow and windy mountain road. No vehicles or trailers larger than 24 feet in length are allowed to drive the whole stretch of the scenic drive. Also, many sites at the campground do not accommodate trailers due to their size or steep grade. Reservations are available on a rolling 30-day basis, and they go quickly (in a matter of seconds). We were able to find a one-night cancellation a few weeks before our trip and we jumped on it!
