Our first night in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, we stayed at Hurricane River Campground. Our site wasn’t lakefront by any means, but it was just a short walk to the beach. Even though we didn’t have a waterfront site, we did enjoy being surrounded by the tall pine trees. Another benefit of this campground was that it was short (1.5 miles one-way) hike from the campground to Au Sable Lighthouse via the North Country Scenic Trail. Our site had a moderate incline, which made it difficult to find a level spot for the trailer that would also leave enough space for us to park our truck. We made it work, but it was tight. If considering a spot here with a trailer/camper, carefully research the site descriptions on Recreation.gov as you are booking your site.
This campground is rustic without hookups and it is in bear country, so be prepared to take additional precautions with food and other scented items.
